Integrated Patient Transport Services:

The Emergency Medical Ambulance Service (EMAS) of Odisha, a joint initiative of MoHFW, GOI & Govt. Of Odisha (under the banner of “National Ambulance Service” has been initiated since 5 th March, 2013.

It’s an ongoing scheme and under this, the State has made provision for comprehensive pre-hospital emergency medical service by introducing a fleet of ambulances (EMAS) at free of cost for the people of Odisha.

To streamline services, the Govt. of Odisha has integrated Patient Transport & Health Helpline Services (IPTHHS) comprises of four services including Health Helpline, EMAS (108), Boat Ambulance and 24×7 Referral Transport System (Janani Express) Ambulances. Beneficiaries can access this service free of charge by dialling the toll-free number “108.”

108 Ambulances provide Emergency Ambulance Service free of cost to the people of Odisha. This is to facilitate an integrated and comprehensive emergency health care management in the State providing high-end ambulance transportation system from the doorstep of the patient to the appropriate care in a hospital.

Currently, M/s. EMRI Green Health Services got selected for five years (2024 -29), through an open tender process for the Operation & Management of the EMAS- 108 ambulance services under IPTHHS phase-II project in Odisha..

108 EMAS Ambulance:

The fleet size of 108 EMAS ambulances stands now at 860 (449 Basic Life Support + 411 Advance Life Support) and that have been augmented in a phased manner. Each ambulance is staffed with a team consisting of one Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), one driver and one helper.

Boat Ambulance Service:

In a bid to provide transportation to sick and injured in the cut-off riverine areas of 4 districts namely Kendrapara, Kalahandi, Koraput and Malkangiri, the Government has also sanctioned 6 (six) Boat Ambulances, as feeder services (since 2019) to both Emergency Medical Ambulance Services and Referral Transport Services.

Referral Transport Ambulance Service: , 500 Janani Express have been made operational in the State since 14th July 2014 with a purpose of providing free referral transport services to all pregnant women and sick infants seeking health care services at Govt. Health Facilities.

104 Health Helpline Services: 104 Health Helpline with 10 seats was launched on 13th October 2015, for making Outgoing calls to follow-up with sample beneficiaries/high risk pregnant mothers registered under RCH . It is functioning on 24X7 basis with a toll free number “104” for general counseling and inquiry including Health related matters/advises. Incoming call facility has been introduced since 15 th Nov,2019 for providing Health information, advise, counselling support to the people on RMNCHA+ & related health schemes.
